Touchdown, Surabaya (English)

After I get down from a roughly 5 hours train ride from Yogyakarta to Surabaya, I finally arrived to my 8th province in my travelling list, East Java, with Surabaya as the capital. The city of Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia after DKI Jakarta. Surabaya itself  is starting to get tidied up with the new regulation created by the Mayor, Tri Rismaharini, who’s widely known as Bu Risma, who’s also the first woman to be elected as the Mayor of Surabaya and she ranked 3rd as the World’s Best Mayor in 2014.

I arrived at Surabaya Gubeng station at 6.30 am and walk to My Studio Hotel, which is located only 5 minutes away from the train station. Even though the name of the place is “Hotel”, it is much more appropriate to be called “Hostel” because of the bunk bed’s type of room. This Ho(s)tel is adapting a minimalistic interior and feels comfy with a 24 hours receptionist on standby.

With an exhausted body and lack of sleep, I went to the counter for check-in, but, right away I was told that the check-in time for the hotel is at 1 pm.

DANG! I have to wait for another 6 hours?

Because I can’t get to rest on the bed, I decided to explore the city right away. I asked for the availability of bathroom because I really need to take a shower before exploring the city, but instead of a good news, the receptionist told me that there is only a toilet and washbowl available, and the bathroom couldn’t be used before I actually checked in,

DANG! again,

I started to get my toothbrush, toothpaste, and face wash from my bag because only those stuff are useful for now. Even with all those bad news earlier, they allowed me to left all my stuffs at the hotel’s storage because it will be hard to bring a total of 11 kg bags around the city while waiting for the check-in time.

I really can’t imagine the fact that I will be travelling around Surabaya without getting a  shower, with the weather that day confirmed to be HOT AF (mostly everyday). But the show must go on, I’ll get my well deserved shower and rest after I explore some part of the city.

After I’ve done changing my clothes and getting prepared, I started my surabaya’s exploration. Anyone can guess the first location I’ve chosen to start from?
